Description
The Bicron Surveyor M is a versatile, portable, count-rate meter used for the detection and measurement of ionizing radiation when equipped with an appropriate GM (Geiger-Mueller) or scintillation probe. Its adjustable high voltage with readout on the meter enables the user to interchange GM and scintillation detectors with ease. The optional built-in digital scaler provides counting times of 0.1, 1.0, and 10 minutes. The scaler features a crystal-controlled timebase for greater accuracy. The unit features a recessed meter movement, single ON-OFF-range selector switch, MHV probe connector, mounted probe holder, front-panel high voltage adjustment, switch-selectable response time, and built-in audio. Also included are internally mounted controls for GM tube anti-saturation, dead-time compensation, and full scale alarm
Specifications
– Radiation Detected: Alpha, beta, gamma, and X-ray, depending upon detector used.
– Range: Four linear ranges of 0- 1000, 0-10,000, 0-100,000, and 0- 1,000,000 CPM (Counts per minute).
– Accuracy: Within 10% of reading between 20% and 100% of full scale on any range.
– Detector: Choice of GM and scintillation probes.
– Saturation: Switch selectable; typically greater than 1000 R/h on the X1, X10, and X100 ranges – for most GM probes; greater than 5 R/h for pancake GM detectors.
– Response Time: Switch-selectable, optimized for each range, 0-90% of final reading.
– Temperature: Operational from -20 to +50 o C.
– Humidity: No more than 5% change in reading from 10-95% Relative Humidity.
– External Controls: Seven-position rotary switch: off, battery check, high voltage, scales X1000, X100, X10, X1; rotary audio and response switches; rotary high voltage adjustment control.
– Internal Controls: Slide ON/OFF switches for controlling GM probe anti-saturation, dead-time compensation, and full-scale alarm.
