Description
The Gold Standard, historically, refers to a monetary system where the value of currency is directly linked to gold. Under the Gold Standard, each unit of currency is backed by an equivalent amount of gold reserves held by the central bank. This system provides stability and confidence in the currency, as it is tied to a tangible and highly valued precious metal. However, in modern times, the Gold Standard has largely been abandoned by most countries, as it restricts the flexibility of monetary policies and limits economic growth. Instead, countries have adopted fiat currencies, which are not backed by a physical asset like gold but are valued based on the trust and confidence placed in the issuing government.
